ground. this fire started in a couple of minutes and ignited and spread as quickly. you get a bird's eye view of the inferno in this manassas subdivision. neighbors say they saw smoke at this address at 3:00 p.m. and called 911. moments later house was engulfed. >> in about 15 minutes, it was completely gone. >> eight homes were damaged, three of them destroyed. high winds calls the burning embers to jump from one house to the next. >> the man who called this in, his house is now a burnt out shell. >> fighters got the blaze under

control, but little is left. >> even the foundations caved in. >> the red cross is providing food and shelter, but with such conditions, neighbors are strain -- are staying on guard. >> we are trying to figure out what to do next. >> emergency management is here on the scene, trying to help these displaced families. they're also trying to help families in six -- to get in help with their insurance providers. it might take days to get to the bottom of this fire. fire officials in fairfax county, but firmed three members of the same family died of smoke inhalation. they were killed when flames ripped to their lorton town
